Financial Controller

The Role

The Financial Controller role, reporting in to the Finance Director and founders, will support the financial planning and reporting processes, and have a measurable impact on the long-term growth of the business. They are looking for someone who is committed to a positive company culture, who can work on their own initiative and who can contribute in all aspects of the company.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Completion of monthly, quarterly and annual management and statutory financial reporting, including responsibility for completion of the year end audit and statutory returns
  • Preparation of board reports for quarterly & annual meetings
  • Budgets & forecasts: preparation of budgets, forecasts and business plans and monitoring and review of same
  • Management of working capital, banking and cash flow
  • Work closely with commercial / operations teams and provide support to maximise business opportunities and cost synergies strategies
  • Preparation of KPI reports aligned to the business needs to include costs/productivity analysis
  • Ensuring tax compliance
  • Develop and document business and accounting processes to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Manage monthly reconciliations of all key accounts
  • Challenge current processes and ways of working to ensure they are scalable for growth
  • Supervise and manage the Company Accountant and the outsourced business partner
  • Review and approve payroll and supplier pay runs
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget
  • Point of contact with external auditors for the annual audit and preparation of statutory financial statements

The Person

You will be a qualified Management/Financial Accountant with a broad spectrum of experience across highly commercial environments. You will need to be adaptable and flexible with a strong strategic mindset and experience to support the business as it drives forward. In order to be considered you will:

  • Be a fully Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent with 3-5 years’ post qualification experience
  • Significant experience in the area of month end reporting and financial control
  • You will be practice trained from a “Big 4” or “Top 10” practice firm
  • You will have audit experience either as part of an internal audit function or an audit practice previously
  • Have advance Excel skills and strong working knowledge of financial packages
  • Have excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Have experience or a deep understanding of the start-up environment and ideally exposure to funding process
  • Strong IT and systems knowledge with a skill set to effectively implement financial software projects.
  • Have a solid understanding of what drives a robust control environment
