Systems Engineer – Cloud Operations

This is a stand alone role where you will provide system administration for business-critical SaaS offerings used by over a hundred organisations that have stringent data security, privacy and compliance needs.

If successful you will report directly to the Director of Cloud Operations and the main responsibilities of the role will include coordinating with organisation’s Cloud provider’s technical teams to achieve the following:

  • Protect the systems from data breaches at all times – this is the highest priority responsibility
  • Remain compliant with PCI-DSS and HIPAA written polices, standards and procedures
  • Monitor and improve system uptime, performance, high availability and disaster recovery readiness
  • Identify system defects and test possible workarounds or patches before implementing them in production

You will also be involved in assisting customers with troubleshooting and use of their SaaS, working with internal Technical Support, as well as the provision of new customer accounts, including complex orders, working with Sales/Professional Services. As part of your role, you will also:

  • Answer in-depth technical questions for prospects, working with company’s Solution Architects and Sales
  • Provide feedback to internal R&D efforts to re-architect, expand and improve SaaS offerings.
  • Participate in emergency-only after-hours on-call rotation
  • Author Knowledge Base and FAQ articles for SaaS customers
  • Write and maintain system documentation and operational procedures

The Person

As the successful Systems Engineer you will have a Bachelor’s Degree in an IT-related field or equivalent experience with a minimum of 4 years’ experience as a Windows system administrator, preferably for a MOVEit installation or other Managed File Transfer software. Additionally, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • A proven ability to adhere to policies, standards and procedures related to change control and other operational best practices
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Considerable knowledge of internet protocols and implementations (DNS, FTP, HTTP, LDAP, SAML, SMTP, SNMP, SSH, TCP, IPv4, IPv6 and IPSec)
  • Considerable knowledge of cryptographic protocols and implementations (TLS/SSL, PGP, Kerberos)

The following skills are also desireable for this role:

  • Industry certifications from CompTIA, SANS, Cloud Security Alliance, or Microsoft MCSA
  • Experience working with Microsoft Azure or the AWS platform
  • Linux/Unix system administration and support
  • Database administration and support (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle)
  • Web server administration and support (IIS, Apache Tomcat)
  • Network device (firewall, load balancer) administration and support
  • Network and application security services such as IDS, SIEM, WAF, Vulnerability scanners
  • Windows PowerShell scripting
  • Chef or Puppet configuration management automation
  • Packet capture analysis (Wireshark, tcpdump)
