Director of Operations (South East Ireland)
A large global healthcare manufacturer based in the South East of Ireland seeks to appoint a Director of Operations, further to a recent internal promotion. Having undertaken substantial recent capital investment, the site is a world leader in its segment and is now embarking on a continuous improvement drive, which the appointee will lead. The role provides tangible career opportunities to move into the role of Site Lead within a 3-4 year time frame.
- Reporting to Site Leader, the successful candidate will direct, manage and coordinate all activities associated with site factories. The Director of Operations is responsible for translating business unit and plant strategies into operational plans. They will lead operations processes and functions, to exceed quality and delivery expectations, reduce operating costs, reduce inventory and drive overall operational excellence.
- Working with the site senior leadership team, which includes Site Lead, HR Director, Quality Director, Engineering & Technical Director, Financial Director and Supply Chain Director, the appointee will drive the continuous improvement agenda. An influential leader, the Director of Operations will have strong communication and stakeholder management skills, overseeing all operational activity for the large site population.
- The Director of Operations will work closely with Engineering on NPI and rapid scale up and with their own operational structure, providing expertise, guidance and direction on operations issues as needed. They will use their strong technical appreciation to establish credibility in driving process efficiencies with a relentless and passionate belief in lean / continuous improvement.
- The appointee will use their expertise of processes and deliverables to improve technical capability. The Director of Operations will drive and measure performance in the areas of unit cost targets, volume output, wastage and profitability. The appointee will work with senior leadership to grow an engagement culture for employees, so enabling the many advantages for all stakeholders that such environments create, including faster uptake and commitment to continuous improvement and other change initiatives.
Candidates will be strong leaders who blend high emotional intelligence with a ‘rolled up sleeves’ leadership style. Specifically, they will demonstrate:
- Significant experience in managing very high quality, high volume, highly automated manufacturing operations, ideally gained in healthcare.
- Extensive experience in developing lean manufacturing strategy and driving a plant wide continuous improvement strategy. An executive who can champion the values and value of lean manufacturing to audiences at all levels.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, the ability to build credibility quickly.
- High levels of emotional control, with the ability to remain calm under pressure and while managing multiple and sometimes conflicting agendas.
- Stretch capacity, capable of being the successor for their manager within a three to four-year timeframe through demonstrated success in the role.
- Ideally a technical qualification with further post-graduate education.
- This role is complex and challenging, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to drive change throughout the site which makes this role particularly interesting.
