Interim Finance Director

Our client is a global leader and highly regarded business within the food manufacturing sector. Over the past number of years, they have shown considerable profit growth and subsequently acquired a number of business to support strategic growth through new products and channels to market. They now seek an experienced interim Finance Director to drive the business forwards.

The Role

Following a recent acquisition, the business is looking to bring an experienced Interim Finance Director onboard to support the business integration, lead the transformation and to put processes and controls in place to ensure further scalability across the European markets initially and then globally. The role will be based in one of the Western European markets and is intended to be an interim position to support a critical phase in the business cycle. It would also have the potential to develop into a longer-term opportunity for the right individual at an international level.

Key Responsibilities would include:

  • Leading the annual financial planning and budgeting process for all countries, channels and functions within the business (e.g. marketing, warehouse, people)
  • Building a financial view of the plan (phased over time) including:
    • Sales by e-comm KPIs such as traffic, conversion, units per transaction, AOV
    • Sales by marketing channels bottom up
    • Sales by customer segment bottom up (new, existing, spend, frequency)
    • Sales by product category bottom up
  • Controlling the business P&L and ensuring the business is commercially focused at all times by managing down costs, driving sales and striving for profit
  • Leading the re forecasting process – helping to highlight and facilitate the process for identifying areas of opportunity, risk and the quantification of plans for mitigation
  • Delivering the financial management and reporting information required to drive trade and manage performance
  • Driving efficiency in the operation of the business – using cost ratios and benchmarking analysis to identify areas of opportunity
  • Ensuring the processes is in place to objectively measure the success of spend on marketing and product acquisition, at all times pushing for efficiency
  • Ensuring best in practice systems and processes are in place to allow for scalability
  • Delivering business cases for growth driving initiatives and subsequently measuring performance of initiatives and assumptions
  • Providing financial insight from market data and the competition that help benchmark performance, identify growth opportunities and risks
  • Creating a commercial culture of day to day e-commerce trading – challenging the norm to deliver bottom and top line growth
  • Working with the central team who manage the standard business as usual activities

The Person

In order to be considered for this Interim Financial Director contract, you will be a qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with a depth of experience in a similar environment and in a business going through growth. Specific requirements for the successful candidate would include:

  • You will be qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) and have a number of years of experience at CFO or Financial Director level supporting businesses post-acquisition, merger or in turnaround
  • It is essential that you have a strong background in businesses focussed on ecommerce channels directly to the consumer
  • A deep working experience of business transformation including process improvement, root cause analysis and leading recovery path strategy and execution
  • A hands-on approach, but at the same time having awareness and focus on the wider business strategy putting in place process, controls and procedures to allow for scalability
  • Strong systems experience to drive efficiencies across the ERP platform and to deliver robust reporting across all lines
  • Flexibility on location, and be willing to base yourself for the duration of the contract in country as required
