Lead Data Engineer

A leading Irish owned retail start-up, established in 2017 are continuing to grow and expand into international markets. They require a leading Data Engineer to join the Data & Analytics team. This Lead Data Engineer will help develop the data infrastructure behind their business, using the latest cloud technology. They will have the opportunity to develop a team and manage end to end data movement of the organisation.

The Role

  • Collect, interpret and simplify incoming data from multiple sources, making it usable for reporting, insights and other analytical applications.
  • Integrate new data streams and sources to enrich our metrics, attributes and segments. Drive continuous improvements in extraction, integration, automation and analysis of terabytes of data.
  • Develop and improve our data & analytics solutions. Work closely with data analysts to help them get the most out of our data and enable the discovery of actionable insights that support business decision making. Effectively apply technology to surface insights automatically, optimise data delivery and simplify self-service analysis for the wider business user group.
  • Lead on activities that include data modeling (relational and dimensional), data lake and data warehouse development and assist in machine learning model development. Leverage our cloud data infrastructure to build and integrate the models into services that power business processes.
  • End-to-end project delivery and change management including development, testing, deployment and the creation and maintenance of technical documentation.
  • Define standards and best practices for data integration, automation, continuous integration and continuous delivery.

The Person:

  • Minimum of 3 years previous experience as a Data Engineer, with previous experience ideally gained working within online Retail or E-Commerce
  • Working knowledge of processing and extracting value from large-scale, complex datasets
  • Deep understanding of cloud data platforms and components (hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform and BigQuery are preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience in applying data warehouse design, data quality principles and agile processes
  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices including coding standards, code reviews, version control management, build processes, testing and deployment
  • Minimum Graduate Degree level in Computer Science, Analytics, Maths, Statistics or related quantitative field
