Upstream Technical Specialist

This organisation are a global leader in healthcare, who are committed to producing life changing therapeutics that have a beneficial impact upon the lives of patients across the globe. The organisation currently employ 500 people at their biologics site in Ireland, and they are growing rapidly. Due to this expansion the organisation are seeking to add an Upstream Technical Specialist to their team. This role is crucial to the organisation in order to strive towards their mission of making a meaningful impact upon the progression of global medicine for future generations.

The Position:

The Upstream Technical Specialist is responsible for delivering technical excellence with regards to biomanufacturing processes, coupled with high innovation and enthusiasm. Other responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Providing technical support for the large-scale manufacturing process of the Drug Substance, including monitoring process performance, troubleshooting and process optimisation.
  • Providing Process Design support throughout operations within the Fermentation facility, while also interfacing seamlessly with colleagues in the downstream area.
  • Optimization of units to drive continuous improvement of Upstream processes.
  • Lead/participate in problem-solving teams to troubleshoot investigations within the Biologics, Sterile and Quality divisions of the organisation.
  • Collaborate with internal as well as external partners.
  • Seek out development opportunities to increase the skill set and experience within the group through continuous education, job rotation, cross-functional training and Lean Six Sigma.

The Upstream Technical Specialist position requires 5% travel time.

The Person:

The Upstream Technical Specialist must have >2 years experience in an Upstream Technical Support role in Microbial or Cell culture and Fermentation manufacturing. Along with this an MSc degree in Biochemistry or a suitable equivalent is preferred, along with a Six Sigma Green Belt certification.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are key criterion for the role, along with displaying a customer focus and excellent problem-solving skills. The successful candidate will also display a drive for results, progression and innovation.

This role offers an excellent remuneration package along with superb working conditions, and includes 5% travel time.
