Job description

This global pharmaceutical leader employees over 400 people in Ireland across three sites. They are seeking an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety professional to join their expert EHS team at the API manufacturing facility in North Dublin. This is a 6-month contract, with an attractive hourly rate. This can be a full-time position covering both Environmental and H&S, or a part-time position covering one of them.

The Role

Duties and responsibilities of the EHS Specialist will include:

Environmental:

  • Develop and maintain the environmental management system
  • Act as the main regulatory contact point with the EPA
  • Ensure the department and the site is in compliance with all environmental statutory and regulatory requirements and that the site is ready at all times for regulatory, management system (ISO 14001) and corporate environmental/CSR audits
  • Support the Internal Audit Programme as per the schedule for ISO14001
  • Compile and maintain the environmental legislative register
  • Conduct audits of third party waste disposal companies
  • Responsible for clear and concise documentation of incident investigation reports for submission to the EPA or company Management Team
  • Participation in root cause investigations of environmental incidents on site
  • Liaise with third party contractors to ensure environmental compliance monitoring and lab testing is carried out as required and as per annual schedules
  • Promote policies and improvements in environmental operations to promote a strong company environmental culture

Health & Safety:

  • Provide assessment and review of projects from an environmental and safety perspective on the API site
  • Act as the client representative on the projects
  • Assess projects through trackwise change control system
  • Liaise with the EPA/HSA as required per client duties
  • Identification of key environmental and safety requirements for the URS development stage of the project
  • Working on construction projects which are taking place in GMP and non-GMP areas
  • Review and guidance for contractors in development of Environmental and Waste Plans

The Person

You will have skills and experience in the following:

  • Minimum BSc, MSc in Environmental Science preferred
  • 8+ years site-based environmental compliance experience working in a manufacturing pharmaceutical environment (preferably in a cGMP environment and on a site with an IPC licence)
  • Supervisory or management experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Environmental Legislation/Regulation and current best practice.
  • Proven track record of maintaining environmental compliance in a pharmaceutical company. Ability to clearly communicate the environmental requirements of situations
  • Excellent team work skills to ensure successful working with the Environmental Officer, the wider EHS team and the other functional areas
  • Ability to provide guidance and advice to other stakeholders on site to ensure compliance
  • Ability to work effectively using own initiative
