Job description

Our client, a well-known global medical device solutions company, is committed to improving lives through medical technology solutions. At present they hold an innovative portfolio of over 46,000 patents. This site produces product for global supply.

The Senior R&D Engineer contract position is a new role and is due to increased workload across the volume of projects being run within the Department.

The Position

  • Lead the research and development of new polymer coating formulations and processes, ensuring compliance with stringent regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate coating processes into regulated product lines, maintaining the highest quality standards.
  • Design and execute experiments to optimise coating parameters within the framework of regulatory guidelines.
  • Rigorously characterise coating properties using techniques such as FTIR, rheology, SEM and mechanical testing, while adhering to regulatory protocols.
  • Analyse experimental data and provide data-driven insights to guide process improvements while upholding regulatory integrity.
  • Navigate and resolve coating-related challenges with a focus on compliance and data-driven decision-making.
  • Stay current with evolving industry regulations, advancements in polymer coatings, and relevant manufacturing technologies within regulated environments.
  • Develop and maintain meticulous documentation, including standard operating procedures and comprehensive technical reports.
  • Collaborate closely with suppliers to evaluate and source regulatory-compliant polymer coating materials.

The Person

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field. Masters or Ph.D. preferred.
  • Extensive experience in developing polymer coatings within highly regulated environments, such as medical devices or pharmaceuticals.
  • Proficiency in designing and executing experiments within the constraints of regulatory requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of polymer chemistry, coating techniques, and rigorous characterisation methods within regulated contexts.
  • Proven experience with process scale-up and technology transfer while maintaining regulatory adherence.
  • Familiarity with quality control processes and methodologies within regulated industries.
  • Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and software for analysis while following regulatory guidelines.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams while considering regulatory implications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, particularly within a regulated framework.
  • Innovation mindset coupled with the ability to adapt to new challenges while upholding regulatory standards.
