Job description

Our client, a blue-chip business in the pharmaceutical sector, operates globally and is the market leader in developing, manufacturing and commercialising best in class products to support their growing international product demand. They are currently engaged in a considerable transformation programme and through the implementation of a series of innovative projects encompassing people, process, M&A, digital and technology changes within its Supply Chain and Logistic network are looking to position the business for continued growth and success. Due to the nature of the transformation required they are seeking an experienced hands-on Programme Manager to join the business on a long-term contract basis.

The Role

This Programme Manager position will be sitting in the global head office based in Dublin, reporting to the overall Head of Programmes, and will be responsible for the initiation, management and delivery of multiple projects of varying scale within global transformation programme. This will require someone with deep experience of managing multiple projects through the full lifecycle from business case and charter development, through to implementation, go-live and closure.

Key responsibilities would include:

  • Establishing and managing appropriate and effective project governance structures
  • Developing, managing and tracking all required project documents, including but not limited to the following: project plans, RAID logs, stakeholder maps, comms plans, status reports, dependencies log, budget, resource plan, test plans (OQ and PQ), cutover plans, training plans and lessons learned logs
  • Managing project progress and status to ensure that projects are delivered within agreed scope, quality, time and budget parameters
  • Monitoring overall project progress, resolving issues and initiating corrective action as appropriate with key stakeholders
  • Preparing corporate project reports setting out project progress vs plan, key risks, items for escalation, time and cost projections and benefit updates
  • Reporting to PMO, senior management, steering committees, IT and business stakeholders on project progress - chairing project meetings as appropriate
  • Managing robust processes for risks, issues and dependencies within and external to the project and ensure they are pro-actively identified, logged and tracked with clear owners, review dates and mitigations
  • Managing project change control and maintaining change control records and justifications
  • Ensuring clear roles and responsibilities and criteria are defined for project decision making and escalation processes. Ensuring timely escalation to senior management of projects going off track
  • Sourcing and securing necessary project resources with required skills and capabilities. Ensuring efficient resource allocation across projects
  • Developing charters/business cases for projects as required, ensuring robust benefit realisation plans are in place
  • Managing and controlling project-related expenditure
  • Managing a diverse range of programme stakeholders both internal and external to the organisation
  • Adhering to industry best practices for project management office (PMO) structures, methodologies and project governance models within the business - including the implementation of stage gates throughout the project lifecycle
  • Managing handover of projects to the business ensuring appropriate support arrangements and training is in place
  • Coaching and mentoring others on project management processes and skills including resources on the project and more widely across the organisation as required

The Person

In order to be considered for this daily rate Programme Manager role, you will be a qualified and experienced transformation Programme Manager with relevant exposure within a large blue-chip environment:

Specific requirements for the successful candidate would include:

  • A strong background in Programme Management and a deep understanding of transformation with a proven track record of delivery on IT-enabled business change.
  • A project management qualification (PMP/Prince2) and have a deep working knowledge working in an Agile environment
  • Demonstrable experience of managing multi-disciplinary, cross-functional teams (IT and business professionals and contractors) to deliver projects safely, on time and within budget
  • Must have experience as an IT Project Manager through the full lifecycle of the project with a detailed knowledge of SDLC / Agile
  • Proven track record in successful programme delivery within a diverse global organisation
  • Excellent communication and the ability to build strong working relationships across different levels of seniority
  • Ability to analyse business improvement opportunities and develop appropriate business solutions
  • Experience of vendor management of major software vendors and system integrators
  • Experience of leading project teams and multiple concurrent projects in a matrix organisation
  • Ideally have Healthcare or Pharmaceutical sector experience
