Job description

Our client is a leading global pharmaceutical organisation with significant operations, including one of Ireland's leading bulk API manufacturing sites. In addition, the site offers contract manufacturing and development services. This innovator has led the way in the development of API's and Chemical Intermediates both in Ireland and abroad. Their Irish operations currently manufacture some of the world's most important medicines, and they are continuing to expand their offering through a large capital investment to introduce a new manufacturing suite. Based in North Dublin, the site is now seeking a Safety Manager to join them on a permanent basis.

The Position

The Safety Manager will manage the Safety Program on site to ensure site maintains full compliance with all applicable H&S legislation, licensing and corporate requirements.

  • Responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining SHE management systems to the highest industry standards and respecting corporate's standards.
  • Responsible for promoting and facilitating the achievement of high standards of environment, health and safety performance across all activities on site.
  • Support and lead the introduction of a new site Cultural Safety Program.
  • Support in the management of the process safety management system.
  • Responsible for routine and non-routine reporting of SHE information to appropriate 3rd parties in a timely and comprehensive manner.
  • Conduct regular site Safety and Environmental audits to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Keep abreast of all relevant Safety and Environmental legislators and regulations, both locally, nationally and within the EC.
  • Plan and deliver annual Safety and Environmental training program. Partner with HR to ensure that all mandatory training is completed.
  • Ensure all staff receive appropriate and relevant training as required associated with new/revised SOPs, health and safety issues and/or environmental issues.
  • Responsible for site emergency response program in conjunction with relevant key stakeholders.
  • Reshape existing site safety policies and procedures to be more user friendly and efficient.
  • Work with the HR Team in the area of occupational health.

Minimum Requirements

  • Degree in science/engineering.
  • Formal safety qualification.
  • Previous relevant industrial experience in the chemical/pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience in IPPC license, GHG permit compliance and ISO14001 implementation and operation required.

Industry Knowledge

  • 5-7 years in a relevant industrial experience in a SEVESO site/IPPCL licenced site.
  • Experience in an Upper OR Lower Tier COMAH Site a distinct advantage.
  • Experience in managing and developing teams.

Preferred Skills

  • Previous relevant industrial experience in the chemical/pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience in IPPC license, GHG permit compliance and ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 implementation and operation required.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong EHS leadership and ability to convince peers.
  • Extensive knowledge of EHS regulations and EHS management systems.
  • Creative in developing new safety and environmental programs and solutions.

  • Strong problem resolution, judgement and decision-making skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and interact across all levels within the organisation.
  • Confidentiality and professionalism in approach to the role and perception by site.
