Job description

Our client is a global leader in its sector with an incredible history of success. They deliver highly technical solutions to their business customers globally and have a substantial footprint in the European market. Due to increased opportunity and the desire to transfer the group strategy into the Irish market, they seek a commercial, ambitious and technically minded General Manager to lead the business in Ireland and ensure client relationships are established, maintained and managed through working partnerships as they seek to scale their operation and take further market share.

The Role

This unique opportunity for the General Manager for Ireland will require an executive who is passionate about what they do, is effective in building deep client relationships, and who is both technically strong but also adept in delivering complex high-value sales solutions to the customers based in the Irish market.

The General Manager Ireland, reporting to the Group Managing Director and the board will be responsible for a number of key areas including:

  • Taking full responsibility for the performance and growth of the Irish business in line with the ambitions and values of the group
  • Planning and implementing a sales strategy focused on generating new customers across the island of Ireland to capture increased market share
  • Adapting the strategy to suit the market and establishing the organisations brand in Ireland aligned with the company's global positioning
  • Developing an effective programme to ensure the retention of existing customers and that the expected level of service is delivered in a consultative manner
  • Taking the lead on all technical customer engagements and delivery ensuring the establishment of deep client partnerships aiding in their success
  • Become a subject matter expert in the technical products and solutions provided by the organisation and adopting a consultative partnership approach with customers to ensure the solution maximises their business potential
  • Manage the business and administrative processes to ensure accuracy, quality, and customer orientation
  • Manage the existing team to strengthen the consultative sales performance

The Person

In order to be considered for General Manager Ireland opportunity, you will be an experienced Engineer and technically trained professional who has further developed as a business leader. Experience in client engagement, development and retention and the delivery of complex technical solutions into the commercial market is required. You will need to be adaptable and flexible with a strong consultative approach to drive the business forward. Further to this, you will:

  • Have deep commercial experience in delivering technical and complex sales solutions into the business to business environment in Ireland
  • Hold an engineering degree and/or master's degree in a related field and there will be a strong preference for executives who hold an MBA alongside this
  • Be ambitious, of a strong entrepreneurial character, and able to work autonomously seeking support where required
  • Be a business leader with a strong approach to operational management and a broad level of local knowledge and awareness of the nuances and legislation in the Irish market
  • Be able to demonstrate a hands-on consultancy approach with the ability to interact effectively with clients, supporting their business success
  • Be an adept negotiator, quick to switch between different negotiation models and capable of using the appropriate measures where required
  • Be well informed of the latest technological developments and holds an excellent technical understanding of the product and its application
  • Be an effective people manager, with the ability to develop and retain staff and elevate performance within the SME environment putting in place processes to drive efficiencies
  • Ideally have extensive project or programme management within a technical environment
  • Progressive track record of successfully operating at senior level driving a business locally but within the framework of a successful multinational business
