Job description

Our client, a rapidly expanding Personal Health/FMCG organisation are seeking an experienced Head of Engineering professional to lead their global Engineering operations. Based at their headquarters in Drogheda, this person will be responsible for Engineering operations across all sites including Capital Programmes and New Product Introductions. This includes leading the engineering and project functions, utilities and capital project management for both the organisation's manufacturing plants including the maintenance team on all onsite facilities.

The Position

  • Provide Leadership of the organisation's health and safety strategy and actions to meet legal requirements and provide a safe place to work for our employees and visitors.
  • Working with the maintenance and facilities manager to develop and implement a preventative maintenance strategy for both the business plants to include scope out and implementation activities.
  • Develop the skill set and training plans of the Engineering and projects groups to meet the requirements of both sites.
  • Work with the maintenance manager and projects teams to set best practices and continuous improvement of plant and equipment OEE usage and capacity.
  • Develop and monitor performance KPIs and department metrics and present them to key plant stakeholders as required.
  • Prepare engineering, capital, NPI, Lean, H&S project budget control spending and report on status.
  • Propose capital expenditure projects including performance improvement waste reduction compliance, health and safety, value engineering, capacity and product portfolio expansion.
  • Provide the engineering leadership for efficiency improvement and cost reduction projects.
  • Contribute and lead value engineering programmes.
  • Map out future engineering value-adding developments and initiatives that will sustain and promote the continuous improvement of products and processes.
  • Develop the process for data collection and analysis of product failures and deliver root cause failure analysis.
  • Set the direction and strategy for the management of maintenance for each site.
  • Work with Procurement, operations, and logistics groups on the control of assets.
  • Ensure all work is executed in line with health and safety and quality system requirements

The Person

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or similar discipline.
  • 10+ years' experience in maintenance-related work in high-volume industries (5 years in supervisory/management) in a multi-shift, multi-skilled team environment.
  • Demonstrable experience leading a preventative maintenance program.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in staff development, engagement and change management.
  • Experience in Financial budgetary control and management.
  • Experience in New Product Introduction.
  • Demonstrate experience in excellence in Project Management.
  • Ideally exposed to Lean Manufacturing, with Black Belt certification.
  • Self-directed, excellent communication skills on technical subjects.
  • Ability to form relationships with stakeholders and work with cross functional teams, up to and including board level.
