Job description

HRM Search Partners have been exclusively retained to undertake the executive search of a new Chief People Officer. This position has arisen due to retirement and is currently being supported by the interim Chief People Officer who will support the onboarding of the successful appointee. This Cork organisation is funded by governement and provides exceptional support to vulnerable children and adults across Cork City & County. With 1500, the Chief People Officer will lead the team of 7 HR professionals to support this Non-For-Profit organisation in driving an innovative, creative and pragmatic people agenda.

The Position

Reporting to the CEO the key responsibilities will include:

  • Develop the HR Strategy: Lead the development of a comprehensive HR strategy aligned with organisational goals and priorities, ensuring that it addresses all aspects of human resource management and supports long-term growth and sustainability.

  • Develop a Strategic Vision for Behavioural Change: Spearhead the development of a comprehensive strategy aimed at fostering a culture of accountability and high performance across all levels of the organisation.

  • Lead by Example: Demonstrate and model the desired behaviours, values, and attitudes expected from employees, inspiring them to embrace change and take ownership of their performance.

  • Provide Training and Development Opportunities: Invest in the continuous learning and development of our HR team, equipping them with the necessary skills and confidence to effectively drive behavioural change initiatives throughout the organisation.

  • Review and Update HR Policies: Regularly assess and update HR policies to ensure they are aligned with the organisation's goals and values, with a specific focus on accommodating the evolving needs and dynamics of the future workforce.

  • Conduct HR Systems Review: Oversee a comprehensive review of HR systems and processes to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions that enhance efficiency, transparency, and effectiveness in managing human capital.

  • Influence and Challenge the Status Quo: Actively engage with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to challenge conventional thinking, foster innovation, and champion initiatives that drive positive change and continuous improvement across the organisation.

  • Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Define clear KPIs related to behavioural change, accountability, and performance, and regularly monitor progress towards achieving these objectives, holding both individuals and teams accountable for their contributions.

  • Promote Open Communication and Feedback: Foster a culture of open communication and feedback, encouraging employees to voice their ideas, concerns, and suggestions for improvement, and actively listen to their perspectives to inform decision-making processes.

  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including employees, board members, donors, and community partners, to garner support and commitment for organisational change initiatives.

  • IR/ER: Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with union representatives, fostering open dialogue, trust, and collaboration to address employee concerns Develop an Employee Relations strategy that proactively identifies and addresses potential areas of conflict or dispute, ultimately mitigating risk and promoting a harmonious work environment.

The Person

  • 10 years plus HR leadership experience

  • Blended industry experience of both public and private sector is highly desirable. Experience in working within Ireland is essential.

  • Experience of working within a large indigenous services organisation is preferable.

  • Experience of leading a HR function and team across all HR disciplines.

  • Experience of working within a unionised environment and proven track record of maintaining positive working partnership.
